2022 Design Trends: Ideas for Your Decoration Project

Published: General // Published 23.06.2023

The year 2022 in interior design is about the pandemic trends’ impact. This includes multi-functional spaces, the use of natural textures, environmental colors and elements that are both functional and aesthetic.

If you’re planning a decoration project in 2022 according to the current trends, here are some ideas and tips to help you during the process.

1. Environmental impact of natural materials

For 2022, the necessity of contact with nature is reflected in interior design by way of colors, finishes and sallow furniture pieces. Use various tones and undertones of taupe and ochre, shades of green, shades of white or even Very Peri, the color of 2022. You can focus on furniture pieces and accessories made of wood, or even natural stone.

As we mostly stay home, it's time to create relaxing and functional spaces with natural tones. Use neutral colors and the daring colors as color accents in small amounts.

Even though wood is a representative element of nature, you can also add natural stone accents or large amounts of marble in bathrooms, kitchens or hallways. When choosing the type of marble, make sure you choose one in neutral shades.

Replace carpets and textiles made of synthetic fibers and fabrics with natural fiber designs. If you like, you can use wool, cotton or jute rugs. For a fresh vibe that brings a corner of nature into your home, include a few green plants.

2. Multifunctional spaces: office, gym and relaxation at home

The pandemic made us realize the importance of a home. Make sure the house satisfies any need in terms of relaxation, work from home office or even a sports area.

Whether you worked from home for a while or #workfromhome all the time, you have felt the need for such a space and not just an office in a cramped office, but an entire area where you can work quietly and efficiently for eight hours a day. Such an area needs to be roomy and equipped with ergonomic furniture, while being a pleasant working environment.

3. Home plants are a must-have

Whether you choose to decorate your home with natural shades or just have other preferences, plants will suit you perfectly. As well as bringing that fresh vibe you need to your home, they also have a calming effect that will relax you. Need we mention that they also purify the air?

4. Minimalist design and furniture with rounded edges

Furniture with rounded edges originated in the 60s and 70s and can be integrated by means of a sofa with a rounded back, an armchair with rounded edges or a coffee table without sharp edges. Even if minimalism is the definition of 2022, furniture pieces with rounded edges will bring out the anonymity of the entire interior and give it a modern feel.

The idea of using these types of furniture emerged with the concept of space fluidity, as areas to feel protected and safe.

5. Natural fabrics

And this year's star is velvet, thus meant to convey a modern and friendly touch to your interior design.

6. Olive green reminds you of nature

Even though the color of the year 2022 is Very Peri, olive green reminds you of the outdoors and beautiful spring days. It's a bright and soothing shade that reminds you of nature, growth and revitalization. If Very Peri was chosen to define the changes in society and the expansion of the metaverse, olive green will make you feel much closer to nature.

7. Black is an accent not to be overlooked

The use of black contrasts in 2022 interior design trends is more due to the effect they create alongside natural wood elements and other organic materials. You can use black accents for furniture, lighting, ornaments, doors, walls or kitchen appliances.

8. Trends in floor design: light shades

When choosing flooring material, the most common choice is wood, and if it is chosen in light shades, it will make the space appear much larger than it really is. Moreover, flooring in a light shade reflects light and makes the room look much airier and brighter. If you don't want to choose wood for your flooring, natural stone is useful, whether travertine, limestone or other stones, that feel like a journey into nature.

Although it may seem like boring, home design is both creative and relaxing, particularly as a DIY process. First of all, make sure you have enough time to choose your elements and their integration with the design. Always consider the size of the room and its purpose, and focus on the quality items, for extended lifetime. Keep in mind the budget, for transparency.

Remember that, despite of the trends, it is essential to feel comfortable in your home, with that homey feeling.
